Job Description

We’re looking for a part-time team member to deliver and execute on two primary focus areas: Communications and Community Management. Playing a core role in supporting the growth of the mymizu network and movement, your responsibilities will include:

Communications

  • Supporting communications with external stakeholders (e.g. managing and responding to enquiries)

  • Creating content for external communication channels, including website, social media, newsletters, emails, etc.

  • Translating from English to Japanese

  • Supporting on delivery of key marketing communications and projects (e.g. campaigns)

  • Other marketing and communications, as needed

Community Management

  • Managing relationships with our community members (e.g. managing enquiries from a network of 2,200+ partner stores)

  • Developing and managing collaborations with schools, universities, city governments, etc

  • Supporting/leading on community events (eg. beach cleans)

  • Other community-related activities

Who are we looking for?

Required skills & experience

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (native Japanese level, advanced/business level English)

  • Ability to flex communication style according to the audience and goal - a highly empathetic, strategic and effective communicator

  • Proven ability to work well with stakeholders in Japan

  • Strong desire to learn, along with professional drive 

  • Results-driven, with a can-do attitude to problem-solving

  • Proactive self-starter who can work autonomously in a dynamic environment

  • Open communication & ability to work well with a remote team: willing to ask difficult questions and have open, honest discussions to ensure we achieve our collective goals


Language Requirements

  • Native Japanese-language proficiency (writing, reading, speaking & listening)

  • Advanced or Business-level English-language proficiency (writing, reading, speaking & listening)


Desirable Experience & Competencies

  • A strong understanding of sustainability / SDGs-related issues, especially in a Japanese context

  • Strong Japanese copywriting skills / experience

  • Strong public speaking experience

  • Experience organising and managing events

  • Ability to work with software such as Google Suite, Notion, Slack, Mural, Zoom, etc

  • Project management skills: ensuring projects are delivered on time and roadblocks are addressed in a timely manner

  • Experienced in digital marketing

  • Familiar with photography, photo editing, graphic design (Adobe Illustrator), videography

  • The ability to work in Japan (we are currently unable to sponsor work visas)

Number of Open Positions

  • 1~2 (dependent on candidate(s) experience)

Location

  • In principle, the person must be located In Japan *This position is mostly remote

Type of Employment

  • Freelance

  • This role is mainly remote, with some in-person engagements  (most of our team is based in Kanto, but applicants are welcome from anywhere in Japan)

  • Hourly Contract: Minimum 15 hours ~ maximum 30 hours per week

  • Start date: As soon as possible

Remuneration Guidelines

  • Hourly Rate: From 1,075~/ hour (depending on experience)

*Indicative ranges for hourly rate, dependent on the candidate’s experience and with potential for growth based on results.

Working Hours & Style

  • FlexTime (with core hours agreed upon in order to facilitate regular internal/external meetings)

  • Largely remote, with some in-person time

  • Flexibility to work remotely overseas for up to 2 months a year if desired

The Hiring Process

  4. Probationary period of 3 months for the successful candidate
