Refill for the Ocean Campaign: Final Impact Report
The Refill for the Ocean Campaign launched on 20 September 2025 and concluded on 31 December 2025.
This campaign, conducted by four global organisations—mymizu (Japan), waterdrop® (Austria), PocketSeed (Japan), and Second Life (Thailand)—implemented a system enabling everyone to tangibly experience how the everyday action of “refilling your own bottle” contributes to solving the marine plastic problem.
Every time a refill was logged using the free mymizu app, the equivalent of 10 plastic bottles (≈200g) was prevented from entering the ocean. What might normally feel like a routine moment - topping up your bottle - became a meaningful act for cleaner seas.
The Impact Created by Everyone’s Refills
During the campaign period, people joined from across Japan and around the world, turning everyday refills into collective action.
Recorded number of water refills: 23,522
Equivalent number of plastic bottles prevented from
entering the ocean: 235,220
Together, this amount of plastic is equivalent to
stacking bottles to almost 11 times the height of Mount Fuji.
Number of users who logged their first-ever refill
during the campaign: 2,533 👏
Each refill on its own may seem small. But when thousands of people take part, those small moments add up - creating a powerful, shared impact for our oceans.
Not the Finish Line, but the Next Starting Point
While this campaign has come to an end, the actions behind it continue.
Refilling your own bottle. Choosing not to buy single-use plastic. Each of these everyday choices becomes a tangible force for protecting our planet’s future.
With heartfelt gratitude to everyone who took part - thank you for being part of this movement.
We hope to bring another edition of this campaign to life soon, so watch this space.
