🏆Winning the 4th Kameoka Environmental Award

Social Innovation Japan (SIJ), the non-profit organisation behind the free water refill app mymizu, was honoured with the 4th Kameoka Environmental Award at the Kameoka City Civic Ceremony held in Kyoto in November 2025.

Kameoka City, known as Japan’s “Plastic Waste Zero City,” recognises individuals and organisations that actively contribute to reducing single-use plastics and protecting the local environment under its plastic reduction ordinance.

Through mymizu, SIJ promotes simple, everyday actions - like refilling a reusable bottle - to encourage a shift away from single-use plastic. The app has been downloaded over 500,000 times and features more than 14,000 refill spots across Japan and 200,000 worldwide, including around 120 spots in Kameoka City.

SIJ received this award in recognition of its inclusive, community-driven approach to reducing plastic waste and empowering citizens to take part in sustainable change.

mymizu will continue working with local governments, businesses, and communities to help turn small actions into meaningful impact for a more sustainable future.
