Hakuba Junior High School SDGs Club Receives the Minister of the Environment Award at GBEF2026!
We’re excited to celebrate the students of Hakuba Junior High School SDGs Club, who received
the Minister of the Environment Award at Green Blue Education Forum 2026 (GBEF2026)! 🎉
In recent years, this youth group has been doing outstanding work by promoting mymizu and removing invasive species in the beautiful town of Hakuba, nestled in the mountains of Nagano prefecture, Japan.
At the awards ceremony, they also had the opportunity to present their work and share their activities through a poster session. Their efforts were further recognised with the Audience Award, chosen by the event attendees.
Their presentation was titled: “Passing Excitement on to Future Generations: Hakuba’s SDGs Partnership Connecting mymizu and Invasive Species Removal.”
The Hakuba Junior High School SDGs Club supports each member in turning their own ideas and interests into action, while working together to create a more sustainable future for their community.
As part of their mymizu activities, the students have visited local elementary schools and participated in community events and village meetings to share the importance of Hakuba’s precious water resources and the idea of carrying a reusable bottle and refilling along the way.
Their activities extend beyond mymizu. To help protect Hakuba’s rich local ecosystem, they also work with local businesses, high school students and community members on invasive species removal activities.
By connecting with local government, businesses, schools and residents, they are turning their ideas into action and showing what young people can create when a community comes together.
To everyone in the Hakuba Junior High School SDGs Club: congratulations on this well-deserved recognition, and thank you for helping bring mymizu to your community. 💧🏔️
Seeing young people take action for the places they call home gives us so much hope for the future.
We look forward to seeing where their ideas, curiosity and passion take them next — from Hakuba and beyond.
